Dear Parent,

Hello, I am Ms. Rivers and welcome to Art! I cannot tell you how excited I am to get to

teach your child all about art this semester. My goal is to provide your student with a challenging

and fun experience in the creative environment.

A little bit about myself: I earned my teaching credential at San Francisco State University as well as my bachelor’s degree in Studio Art. I also recently finished my master’s program in curriculum and instruction at Washington State University. I enjoy painting and drawing and above all I love to watch my student’s creativity grow throughout the course of the year. When I am not drawing or teaching, I enjoy playing soccer and also coaching soccer. I am looking forward to getting to know your student individually, and I look forward to integrating their interests into the curriculum.

Over the course of this school year, we will focus on several forms of visual artwork such as

drawing and painting, along with ceramics, sculpture, and other available techniques. Not only will your child develop skills in creativity but also in problem solving and collaboration. Students will also learn about using art as a means of self-understanding, as we will work on developing personal identity.

This year, your student will learn design techniques including space, value, and color. Your student will also build an artist’s vocabulary through class projects. All of the materials will be provided in class but make sure your student always brings a pencil and paper. Hopefully, your student has brought home their course syllabus and you have both had time to go over the information.

If you have any questions regarding the syllabus or the course, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am always available to help students individually before school, during my prep

periods, and after school. If you would like me to notify you on your child’s progress, please

feel free to email me. You can also reach me by phone at (925) 915-8325 if you have any questions or concerns during the year. I look forward to working with you and am excited to help your student succeed in my class.

Sincerely,

Haley Rivers
